Florida fishing

Some of the best fishing in the world can be found in the state of Florida. As a state that features so much beachfront and so many lakes, it’s to be expected that Florida fishing would beat just about everybody else. There are certain places within the state of Florida where serious fishermen have to go. Whether it is freshwater fishing or the saltwater variety, Florida’s got something to keep every fishing enthusiast happy.

Florida’s Southwestern region has some of the best saltwater fishing in all of North America. Anglers can go through an extensive set of coves and bays, exploring the clear waters for some big fish. Between the thousands of miles of coastal shoreline, the large number of creeks, and plentiful oyster bays, it’s easy to see why Florida fishermen might want to harvest their finds from these waters.

The four fish that fishermen would likely catch in this area of Florida are the snook, redfish, spotted sea trout, and tarpon. Some very lucky anglers are able to pull of what is known as the grand slam, a rarity in Florida fishing. That occurs when an angler is able to pull in one of each of the big four game in the same day.

The saltwater fishing is highly protected by the federal government and the state of Florida. The saltwater marshes are protected by the government as national areas of interest and there are strict rules on when, where, and how many fish can be harvested from the waters. This helps to keep the waters full of fish and the area beautiful. Some of the cleanest water in the state can be found in Charlotte Harbour, where extensive grass beds provide ample cover for waiting fish.

If saltwater fishing were all it had to offer, Florida fishing would leave a little bit to be desired. The state also has some great freshwater fishing, though. Though there are not a great number of lakes in that Southwestern portion of the state, the lakes are well stocked with fish. It could be said that what Florida lacks in quantity, it makes up for in lake quality. The fish are plentiful and they’re always biting under the hot sun.

In Florida fresh waters, anglers can try their hand at catching some monster bass, bottom feeding catfish, and panfish. Most of the freshwater fishing for bass is done on private land, though, as the ponds and lakes in Southwestern Florida are mostly private. If you can get on these lakes, there are plenty of monsters to be caught, though.

The three main canal systems in Florida also offer great freshwater fishing. Lehigh Acres, Cape Coral, and Golden Gate are all locally known for their wonderful bass fishing. On these canals, anglers can either enter through a public boat ramp or test their hand fishing off of a pier.

In Florida, the fishing offers a little bit of something for just about everyone. Whether an angler likes to hit the ocean for saltwater action or head to the lake for some bass fishing, he or she is likely to find a spot worth staying in. With the wonderful weather and the beautiful scenery, Florida is the perfect place to drop a line.
